About Siargao Island

Siargao has transformed from a sleepy fishing village into one of Asia's most sought-after destinations. While famous for Cloud 9's thick, hollow tubes that attract surfers worldwide, the island offers much more than waves. The island vibe is laid-back and rustic. Palm trees line the roads, and the nightlife in General Luna is vibrant but unpretentious. Beyond surfing, you can explore the magrooves of Del Carmen, the rock pools of Magpupungko, or the stunning islands of Guyam, Daku, and Naked Island. Sugba Lagoon is another highlight, offering emerald waters surrounded by limestone formations, perfect for paddleboarding and diving.

Location

Practical Information

Direct flights to Sayak Airport (IAO) from Manila, Cebu, or Clark.

General Luna has the most options. Malinao is quieter and more upscale. Pacifico is for those escaping the crowds.

Rent a motorbike to get around (approx. 350-500 PHP/day). Bring reef-safe sunscreen. Cash is king in many smaller spots.

Travel Tips

packing

Pack for Tropical Weather

Lightweight, breathable clothing is essential. Don't forget swimwear, a quick-dry towel, and a light rain jacket for sudden showers.

transport

Using Tricycles

Tricycles are the most common local transport. Negotiate the fare before getting in, or ask a local for the standard rate to your destination.

budget

Cash is King

While major cities accept cards, many islands and rural areas rely on cash. Always carry small bills (20s, 50s, 100s) for small purchases.

safety

Hydration Safety

Stick to bottled or purified water. Avoid tap water and ice cubes in street stalls unless you are sure they are made from purified water.

cultural

Filipino Hospitality

Filipinos are incredibly friendly. A smile goes a long way. "Salamat" means thank you and is always appreciated.

packing

Sun Protection

The sun can be very strong. Bring high SPF reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself during island hopping.
