About Banaue Rice Terraces

The Banaue Rice Terraces are ancient sprawling man-made structures from 2,000 to 6,000 years old. They are carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by ancestors of the indigenous people. These terraces were built largely by hand and fed by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above the terraces. If the steps were put end to end, it would encircle half the globe. Nearby are the Batad Rice Terraces, which are often considered even more spectacular due to their amphitheater-like formation.

While major cities accept cards, many islands and rural areas rely on cash. Always carry small bills (20s, 50s, 100s) for small purchases.
